This Woodland themed nursery definitely ranks high on our list of J&K's favorite projects. Our client came to us with a few requirements... woodland theme, must include a teepee (like duh), and keep your lips sealed! You read that right, this was not only a dream job because of all the super fun finishes... but because it was a SURPRISE and we thrive on being sneaky! Our first order of business, as usual, was to check out the existing space and existing furniture. It was love at first site... this room was made for a nursery. It has so much natural light, and the tray ceiling would be great for a yummy little pendant.
To be completely successful at our jobs, it is important for our spaces to be both functional and beautiful. Our goal for this nursery was to create a safe and peaceful place to welcome baby, but also a space that was easy for the mom to navigate. There were four areas that we felt were critical in the design of this sweet space; storage, baby's space, mom's space, and play area. We paid special attention to storage- making sure all of the important needs (AKA diapers and wipes) were located in one place. We chose to place the crib on an a wall that did not have an adjacent room, hoping that this will keep extra noise at a minimum. Finding the perfect glider was easily one of the most important decisions in this space. If baby is happy then everyone is happy- so finding a smooth gliding machine that rocks baby to sleep fast is a must. Lastly, all babies need a play teepee because they are MAGICAL! After checking functionality off of the to do list, we moved on to finishes and accessories. Check out our top 2 design schemes below!
Option 1 explores contrasting colors of grays and oranges. The first thing we selected for this nursery was the wallpaper from Chasing Paper... it is a gold color and it's at a perfect scale! We then paired the Modern Toile Graphite fabric from Robert Allen for custom window treatments. We are huge fans of using multiple patterns in one space! Although the wallpaper and fabric have busier patterns, which tends to scare people away, their contrasting colors allow them to pair perfectly with one another. We found the perfect gliding machine, found at Pottery Barn Kids... this glider comes in so many color ways and it has a very strong and clean silhouette.
Option 2 included a blue and yellow color scheme. Option 1 incorporated much richer and warmer colors and this design is much cooler and brighter. Both of these design options achieve our goals for the nursery, but we think it is important to give our client and ourselves (in this case) more than one option. While searching for teepees we were surprised by the variety of sizes and colors that we found. We found this very simple, but beautiful teepee at In Habit Teepees. We chose this one because of its quality, the wood frame is hand carved to look as authentic as possible! The log poufs are one of our favorite items in the space, there is nothing more perfect for this woodland nursery than a soft pillow log! After swooning over both designs schemes we finally made a decision... and we are so thrilled with the results!
